Victoria Falls Recycling (VFR)

In Victoria Falls, a project led by youth, particularly women, has been established with the support of Africa Albida Tourism, Petreco Zimbabwe, EMA (Environmental Management Agency), Victoria Falls Municipality, and HAZ (Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe). This project aims to address the waste management challenges in the area by promoting recycling and composting practices.

It is estimated that 70% or more of the waste generated in Victoria Falls can be recycled or composted. In light of this, the project actively encourages community participation in recycling efforts. The focus is on recycling materials such as paper, plastic, cans, and glass, which are commonly found in household waste.

By engaging the local community in recycling initiatives, the project aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, minimise environmental pollution, and conserve valuable resources. Recycling not only benefits the environment but also creates economic opportunities, as recycled materials can be processed and reused in various industries.

Through collaboration with Africa Albida Tourism, Petreco Zimbabwe, EMA, Victoria Falls Municipality, and HAZ, the project provides the necessary support, resources, and infrastructure for effective waste management and recycling practices. This includes the establishment of collection points, awareness campaigns, and educational programs to promote a culture of recycling within the community.

By actively participating in recycling efforts, the youth and women involved in the project contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment in Victoria Falls. Their dedication and collaboration with various stakeholders demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship and their desire to make a positive impact in their community.

Together, through the collective efforts of the project’s partners, community members, and the support of local businesses and organisations, Victoria Falls can work towards a greener and more sustainable future, where waste is minimised, resources are conserved, and the beauty of the area is preserved for generations to come
